What is Skype?

Skype (pronounced /ˈskaɪp/) is an application that allows users to make phone calls over the internet. Calls from users to users are free, while calls to fixed telephone lines and mobile phones are charged. Skype allows free calls only between two computers or terminals equipped with skype.

With Skype it is also possible to make paying calls to fixed telephone lines and mobiles and also receive calls from landline and mobiles.

With Skype, video conferencing and chat are possible, as you can see on your computer screen the face of your(s) interlocutor(s) and hear him (them) speaking.

Skype let you call and hear someone and see him on your screen if you and your partner are equipped with loudspeakers, microphone and webcam. Most of these tools are inbuilt in modern computers, if not, you should invest in a headset.
