Taking Measurements
You need the following measurements for a basic pattern of a skirt:
Waist Size: is measured at the waistline.
Hip Size: is measured around the fullest part.
Length of Skirt: is determined individually on the side starting at the waistline.
Creating a basic skirt pattern yourself (follow image)
For the construction of the skirt, you need a sheet of paper.
T - L = Front length
T - Hü = 22 - 25cm
T - t = half a hip size + 1cm
Hü - hü = 1/2 hip size + 1cm
s = middle of Hü - hü
(T = Waist, L = Length, Hü = Hip)
The length from waist to hip is an aid and is, as a rule, 22-25cm.
Adjusting the waist size of the skirt: The excess of the waist size is removed by one half at the side seam and at the dart in the back. The dart in the back should take in 8-9cm. On an individual basis, the dart can be modified according to the waist shape.
Purchased Patterns: Compare the purchased pattern with your individual measurements as shown above, and adjust if necessary. The purchased patterns contain numerous tips and information, that appear confusing. Familiarize yourself by reading through it first.
