An application is a piece of software which performs singular or multiple specific taks for you. It can be a program or a package of programs.

A lot of useful applications are already installed when you buy a Smartphone, for example to administer your messages, your media, for webbrowsing, a personal planner, search, social networking, maps and others.

To get additional application for your phone, you can download them from the web. There exists platforms which supports only one manufacturer and multiple support platforms. iPhone owners usually download applications from the Appstore.
