Required Materials

Sewing Machine: An electric sewing machine is of course more comfortable, but basically you can work with any sewing machine.

Scissors: Buy yourself a pair of fabric scissors to make clean cuts.

Needles: For hand stitches, we need simple, straight pins. The length does not matter, you have to manage well. The strength of the needles must match the thread and the fabric (use fine needles for silk, use thicker/stronger needles for tweed).

Thread: It must match in strength and material the thickness of the fabric. You sew silk with silk yarn, cotton and linen with cotton yarn. Polyester yarns are all-rounders. They are suitable for many types of fabrics.

Fabric: For a simple, straight skirt you should use, for example, fine and thicker wool, tweed, denim, velvet, wild silk, linen. As a beginner, select plain, solid fabric.

Ironing equipment: You can use any commercially available iron. Useful is an ironing board and a sleeve board. But you can also iron on a table. You'll need to protect the table surface with a thick fabric.

Other Tools: You need a thimble, tailor's chalk, a tape measure and a tracing wheel. To be recommended is also a square ruler or a straight ruler.
