How to sew a skirt

For whom is this course?

This course is suitable for beginners learning to sew or also for those who already have a basic knowledge of sewing and wish to refresh it. 

What is the aim of the course?

The course provides an overview of the basic skills that are needed for sewing. You will learn how to create a basic pattern for a skirt and you will be able to sew that skirt.

Which basic knowledge, tools and materials are needed?

The course is an online course, it is available on the Internet. Therefore, you need a computer with Internet access to follow this course.

The following programs need to be installed on your computer (check before you download what is available on your pc): 

You should have an electric sewing machine and be able to use it, and you will do basic calculations when taking measurements.
You need the following tools and materials:

  • Sewing machine
  • Iron
  • Ironing board, or suited table to iron
  • Pins
  • Sewing needles
  • Fabric scissors
  • Tailor's chalk
  • 2 large sheets of silk or wrapping paper (or ready to buy pattern sheet)
  • Fabric
  • Tacking thread
  • Sewing thread
  • 1 fine zip fastener, 18 -20 cm long, to match the fabric

 

How is the course structured?

The course is an online course, it is available on the Internet and is structured modularly. You can view either individual chapters or follow the order suggested, which we recommend for beginners. All steps are explained in detail, with illustrations or recorded by video. You can always switch between the different chapters.
