What does a mentor do?

A good mentor is willing to teach what he or she knows. The mentor understands that good mentoring requires time and commitment and is willing to continually share information and their ongoing support with the mentee.

A mentor is :

  • a trusted guide and friend
  • someone who listens
  • someone who helps others explore opportunities
  • someone who will have good ideas about how to deal with difficult situations
  • shares their experience and knowledge
  • help another to stay ontrack and reach their goal
  • stays independent – does not get to personal

A mentor is not:

  • a teacher
  • a parent
  • a psychiatrist
  • a social worker
